Citable datasets. Collected with you in control.
ParseQuest is a local-first research and preservation workspace. You browse; it captures what you view and attaches a provenance record to every item. Credentials never leave your machine.
Desktop app for social media research. Cloud sync is optional.
Why reproducibility starts with provenance
A finding is only as strong as the record behind it. ParseQuest helps you show where every data point came from, when it was captured, and that it hasn't changed since.
- Screenshots and spreadsheets with no capture record
- Hard to show when or how an item was collected
- Findings that reviewers and editors can't verify
- Archives that can't be cited with confidence
- Every item stored with source, timestamp, and a SHA-256 content hash
- Versioned records: changes create a new version, never a silent edit
- Exports that carry provenance and version history
- Datasets you can cite, defend, and reproduce
Capture locally. Sync only what you choose.
Four steps from what you view to a citable dataset. You are present at every step.
Capture
You browse in your own authenticated browser session. ParseQuest records what you view, at normal browsing pace.
user-present · rate-respectingStore
Each capture is saved on your device as a versioned record with a provenance entry.
versioned · SHA-256 hashSync
Choose collections to sync for cross-device access and search. Records only, never credentials.
optional · off by defaultExport
Produce JSON, CSV, or PDF with full provenance, including offline.
format: json / csv / pdfA calm place for your research
Browse collections, follow a result back to its origin, and export with a keystroke. Nothing is overwritten in place.
Every record carries provenance
Each artifact carries a version number and a provenance record, so a finding can always be traced back to the run that produced it.

Your research, on your device
Captures are stored locally by default. You decide what, if anything, leaves your machine.
Credentials stay local
You sign in on your own device. ParseQuest never sees your passwords, tokens, or session data.
Built to cooperate
We follow published usage norms and rate limits by default. See our usage norms.
Who it is for
Anyone who needs a durable record of public conversation - archived, citable, and under their control.
Academics
Build citable datasets with a clear record of how each item was captured.
Journalists
Document the posts behind a story, with timestamps and hashes you can show an editor. Scope controls and a deletion workflow help you handle personal data responsibly.
Analysts
Keep a traceable evidence trail, with provenance on every row.
Teams
Share datasets and provenance records across a project. Sharing covers records only; each person captures through their own session. (Coming soon.)
